Twitter has been around for a while, having gained plenty of attention from pretty much everyone. If you haven’t heard of Twitter by now, you may want to contact your cable provider to make sure they aren’t just playing re-runs and commercials from 7 years ago.
A lot of people might outright reject Twitter, based on the obvious tendency toward triviality in modern society, especially via social networking routes. However, this is not always the case.
Take Poetry_Daily, for instance. After all, we live in a world where so much other than the literarily written word dominates our reading. Through Twitter, however, following poems.com (Poetry Daily’s url) is simple. This site posts previously-published poems (from well-respected literary journals) for users to enjoy. Usually, these poems come from poets who have fancy degrees and have studied philosophy, classics, literature etc. So, for a little pleasure or wisdom every day, a follower of Poetry Daily can read a poem in his or her spare time. Of course, sometimes poems come up that aren’t necessarily the best. But, who cares? Sometimes a special kind of pleasure, whether aesthetic or not, comes from the recognition and criticism of bad things, right?
That’s just poems, obviously. Maybe you’re a sports fan. Maybe you prefer your midday soaps. Luckily, for just about every subject, there’s someone tweeting. Usually they’re not too hard to find.
